 About Stoneback Sisters & Brass.           

Since 1992, Stoneback Brass & Sisters have earned a distinguished reputation for their versatility in trumpet performing. This dynamic group of triplet trumpeting playing sisters, along with their father excite, enthuse and inspire their audiences. Presenting sounds of classic trumpet trios and quartets across stages throughout the U.S., Europe and Canada for over 20 years, they have performed in excess of 2,000 concerts and functions throughout the United States and Europe in schools, churches and communities. With an authenticity and down home humor that is rooted in their Midwest upbringing, the Stonebacks provide the listener with a new and fresh take on trumpet ensemble performance. From the exciting trumpet trios of Rafael Méndez to the contemporary sounds of Allan Vizzutti, the Stonebacks present a full range of virtuosic trumpet solo, trios, and quartets, as well as, vocal insertions. The traditional trumpet and contemporary repertoire along with the family’s virtuosic timbre and enjoyable presentation have proved to be a joy to a variety of audience.

Stoneback Sisters

The Stoneback Sisters -- Kristin, Mary, and Sarah Stoneback are one in a million performers, literally! Since the age of 12, this identical Tripleting Trumpet Trio have been featured with numerous bands and orchestras throughout the United States and Europe, including the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, John Philip Sousa Band, United States Air Force Band of the West, South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Interlochen Wind Ensemble, and the Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra. The sisters have been featured performers at the International Trumpet Guild, International Women’s Brass Conference, the Iowa Band Masters, South Dakota Band Masters among others. As a trio, they have performed on stage with world greats such as Doc Severinsen, Allen Vizzutti, Jon Lewis, Susan Slaughter, Richard Hayman and Henry Charles Smith. Recently, in Spring of 2018, Stoneback Sisters were featured guest solo trio with the Montana State University Wind Symphony as part of the 125th Birthday Celebration for MSU.

 

The sisters are graduates of the highly esteemed, Interlochen Academy for the Arts at Interlochen, Michigan and studied at Arizona State University with world renown trumpeter, David Hickman. Embracing the legacy of Rafael Méndez this Triplet Trumpeting Trio have been awarded sole performance rights to the trio music library of legendary Hollywood trumpeter, Rafael Méndez and perform this music with bands and orchestras, considering it an honor to bring this legendary music to life for bands, orchestras and audiences everywhere.

Stoneback Brass

The Stoneback Brass Trumpet Quartet have been Conn-Selmer Inc. clinicians since 1996 and promote music education as pivotal part of life.  (Conn-Selmer link here once they update it) As Clinicians for Conn-Selmer Company Inc., the Stonebacks have presented numerous educational and inspirational seminars and assemblies in schools throughout the United States. Stoneback Brass has been featured artist-clinicians at numerous conventions and conferences such as the Texas Bandmasters Association, International Women’s Brass Conference, Texas Music Educator Conference as well as the Iowa Band Masters. They have been featured soloists with the St. Louis Symphony Brass in their Annual Christmas Gala, held at the St. Louis Basilica. From the fall of 2001, to the spring of 2003, Stoneback Brass served as Artist in Residence at Southwestern College in Phoenix, AZ. In that capacity, they were charged with over seeing the development of the formation of the colleges newly formed instrumental music program.

Currently

The Trumpet Trio/Quartet, are pursuing diverse careers alongside performing together as Stoneback Sisters and Stoneback Brass. Sarah is the Trumpet Professor at Montana State University School of Music. Kristin is currently serving in the U.S. Army Band serving as a trumpet performer. Mary is a Diaconal Minister and faith and youth Formation Director at Ascension Lutheran in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Ron is a sought after guest speaker, author and conductor.
